PDA Level 2 Evening Class
Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) is part of the complex Autistic Spectrum Conditions, one that is not recognised by certain healthcare professionals (for EHCP purposes).
People with PDA will avoid demands made by others – even silent demands (unspoken), due to their high anxiety levels when they feel that they are not in control. They then appear to be controlling and dominating, especially when they feel anxious and are not in charge.
People with PDA need a very different approach to the usual which is successfully adopted with autistic individuals. At school or college, these individuals often resist doing classwork even though it’s not hard for them. This makes it difficult for teachers to know what they can do.
Meeting the Needs of Individuals with PDA – In this Level 2 training course, we will help you to get to the heart of the condition, and will share with you many ways to apply positive behaviour management. At the same time, you’ll learn how PDA affects learning and come away with practical and meaningful ways to have a calmer learning space.
So if you need help to support behaviours such as individuals who:
**appear sociable, but lack depth in understanding
**have excessive mood swings and impulsivity
**display obsessive behaviour, often focussed on people, either loving or loathing them
…… or very demand avoidant (refusing, upset, outbursts), this training is FOR YOU!
Meeting the Needs of Individuals with PDA – This Level 2 accredited evening class has four learning points:
-
Know what is meant by Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA)
-
Understand how PDA impacts on individuals across age groups
-
Understand how to apply positive behaviour management when engaging with individuals with PDA
-
Know strategies to reduce the effect that PDA has on learning in the classroom
