Understanding and Supporting individuals with PDA (multiple dates)

Categories: ,

Our fantastic course Understanding and Supporting individuals with PDA is available as a half day session.

We’re bringing this to you live and online, via Zoom, with fully guided training across two hours 9.30am – 11.30am.

During this training session, our aims are that participants will:

– Understand the meaning of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) and the history of this profile on the Autistic Spectrum

– Know how to support a PDA pupil/student in class and elsewhere

– Recognise what causes the behaviours associated with PDA and the best methods to de-escalate

– Be more aware of how PDA and Autism are linked

The PDA Society states that the profile of Pathological Demand Avoidance includes individuals who:

  • have a need for control which is often anxiety related

  • are driven to avoid everyday demands and expectations (including things that they want to do or enjoy) to an extreme extent

  • tend to use approaches that are ‘social in nature’ in order to avoid demands

  • present with many of the ‘key features’ of PDA rather than just one or two

  • tend not to respond to conventional parenting, teaching or support approaches

Attendance at one of our courses will ensure that you will have a greater understanding of PDA, and you’ll be able to use strategies which are most effective for the PDA profile.
